SUMMARY:Space Psychology & Human Factors - Celia Avila-Rauch
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nPsychology is a science that studies the human mind and its functions\, primarily those that affect human behaviour. Psychology promotes productive and effective communication\, avoids unnecessary conflicts and regulates our mood\, motivation\, resilience and self-esteem. Psychology explores the concepts of perception\, attention\, emotion\, motivation\, brain functioning\, intelligence\, thinking\, personal relationships\, consciousness and unconsciousness. The importance of human adaptation to different environments has drawn the attention of psychologists to mental health and has led to the discovery of new areas of scientific research focused on the aerospace and aeronautical environment. \nSpace psychology refers to the application of psychology to evaluate human spaceflight. It includes the areas of industrial and organisational psychology to team selection\, individual and team mental preparedness\, team training\, ongoing psychological support\, and the application of human factors and ergonomics to spacecraft construction to ensure good habitability. Space psychology is focused on more than just pathology or dysfunctions but on personal development and optimisation of personal resources. We need to understand the psychological and social dimensions of space teams and where they will live during space missions. \nAnalog missions based on isolation habitats may provide information about how extreme environmental conditions and habitat design can affect our performance\, mental health\, and physiology. The members of the analogue mission have to deal with technologies\, ergonomics and communications. Cognitive and Emotional processes in high-performance teams refer to careers that require a high level of interaction with engineering and technology\, as well as with psychology and ergonomics\, physical and psychological changes due to the conditions they are subjected to (altitude\, pressures\, workload\, atmosphere) (Kanas et al.\, 2010). These adverse influences may negatively impact the performance of mission teams both on the ground and in flight. Every astronaut activity is aligned with national science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics (STEM) standards. \nMissions represent a challenge but\, at the same time\, a high health risk\, especially in the psychological sphere. For this reason\, prior preparation is required\, simulating different scenarios. For example\, isolation\, confinement\, radiation\, reduced water consumption\, analogue environments\, lack of gravity\, distance from Earth\, etc.\, will increase the prevalence and severity of some affective\, cognitive\, physical and behavioural symptoms. We must understand that space tasks require a balance between people and machines. Therefore\, space scientists see the world from a different perspective. \nKeywords: Human Factors\, Human Behaviour\, Psychology and Performance \nEuroSpaceHub\, LUNEX EuroMoonMars\, International Moonbase Alliance\, NeuroTech Lab\, Space Renaissance International \nAn essential bio\nCELIA AVILA-RAUCH\, Psychotherapist-Coach-Supervisor\, Aviation and Space Psychologist\, Platzl 2\, 80331 Munich Germany  +49 1707327979 \nwww.windrose-coaching.de www.windroseglobaladvisors.de  windrosecoaching@outlook.com \nTrained at University of Girona (UdG)\, Master in Psychology Autonomous University Barcelona(UAB) Clinical psychologist and active cognitive behavioural psychotherapist. SUMMARY:The booming new space economy - Adriano V. Autino
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nThe new space economy is booming at increasing pace\, since the first years of 21st Century. The sector moved first steps\, from 1997 to 2004\, when about 20 companies competed to win the X-Prize. The $10 million Ansari XPRIZE was conceived and funded by the philanthropists Peter Diamandis and Gregg Maryniak\, with the purpose of reducing the risk and cost of going into space\, incentivizing the creation of a reliable\, reusable\, privately funded manned spacecraft\, so as to finally make private space travel commercially viable. Before the Ansari XPRIZE\, spaceflight was the sole responsibility of governments. Space tourism was considered too dangerous and expensive for the general public Space exploration was neither possible nor affordable for the private sector. The 27 September and October 4 2004\, Scaled Composites won the X-Prize: it’s vehicle SpaceShipOne had flown 2 times over 100 km altitude in one week\, piloted by Mike Melvill and Brian Binnie. That was the trigger. Low cost access to space was demonstrated\, and many brave entrepreneurs and investors started to work and push the new space economy to grow up. 2015 can be considered the second key milestone\, when Elon Musk and its company Space X\, demonstrated the reusability of the rockets’ first stage. A new space company\, Space X is now leader of the launch market worldwide\, having downsized the cost of the orbital launches from $50.000 / Kg to current $1.500 / Kg. When fully reusable orbital vehicles will be available (Starship)\, we can expect a further downsizing of the cost to orbit\, at $100/Kg. and less. The global value of the space economy is now worth about $0.5 trillion\, and likely will reach $1.5 trillions before 2030. The space economy is leading the global economy development\, and demonstrates more and more to be the sole sustainable development\, in this first half of the 21st Century. This lecture covers the past\, the present and the future of the space economy\, providing a comprehensive look on the industry and growing market.\n \nA short bio\n\nAdriano Vittorio Autino\, born in Moncrivello (VC\, Italia)\, is co-founder and former President of the Space Renaissance Initiative\, since 2010 Space Renaissance International (SRI)\, an inter-cultural non-profit association\, whose mission is the opening of the space frontier: low-cost access to space\, space tourism\, industrialization of the geo-lunar space\, use of near Earth asteroids\, and the full development of space economy. Adriano is diplomed in Industrial Electronics\, acting since 1971 as a software and system engineer\, then project manager and entrepreneur in the field of real-time automation systems. His insatiable curiosity and the desire to engage in frontier fields have led him to work in the aerospace environment\, and to devise and develop an integrated software system\, supporting the systems engineering and the project lifecycle management processes. Adriano authored and co-authored several books\, papers and articles on the theme of civilization expansion into the outer space. \nLinks\nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/live/LdgY34EpINs\nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/524620919600099 \nAdriano Autino’s book “A greater world is possible” is available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/greater-world-possible-expansion-civilization/dp/1727889924

SUMMARY:Illustrating the Universe - Danielle Futselaar
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nAn astronomical publication reads much more pleasantly with some pictures. A picture of Jupiter or the Andromeda Galaxy for example. But what about subjects of which there are no pictures? Think of an exoplanet or an interstellar comet\, or a phenomenon discovered by radio telescope. Then ‘artist impressions’ bring salvation.\n\nAn essential bio\nDaniëlle Futselaar specialized in these scientifically sound illustrations. She started in 2001 as an independent graphic designer and illustrator. Since 2011\, she has regularly provided illustrations to various astronomical organizations. As a result\, her work appears in the media regularly\, including Nature\, American Scientist\, National Geographic\, The Washington Post and The New York Times. Her work has also appeared on the cover of Nature and American Scientist. She has written and illustrated a children’s book about the universe and illustrated books for André Kuipers and Govert Schilling. She is currently writing and illustrating for a new book. \n\nLinks\nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/live/LdgY34EpINs\nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/878748413232781/

SUMMARY:Celebrating (and Continuing) Women’s Contributions to Our Push for the Stars - Priscilla Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nPotentially half of the world’s coming contributions toward a human presence on Mars could lie in the hands of women. They will surely help us get there – but – in order to get the full picture of how we got to this point\, and to encourage future contributions\, we should make clearly known our recognition of the contributions they’ve already made.\nThis presentation will share and celebrate several “modern” key female contributors. It will include an offering of their backgrounds\, hurdles\, motivations\, and contributions; presented through both word and art. Images will include special selections from a new art collection highlighting these space luminaries in portraits; portraits with unusual storytelling approaches\, but using very classic and embracing styles. Included will be women who have made contributions from Astronomy to Engineering\, from Apollo program seamstresses to astronauts; from people who are household names\, to those with names few are familiar with. Highlighted will be the encouragement and assistance these achievers and luminaries offered from family and friends\, both male and female. “No man…(or woman – OR GREAT ENDEAVOR)… is an island”. Examples of the importance of reaching out and encouraging all potential contributors and allies will be shared. Our progress towards a human presence on Mars is not to be viewed as inevitable. It is not inevitable without contributions and support from all. The presentation will close with a call to encourage\, assist\, and invest in future contributions from women.\n \nAn essential bio\n\nPriscilla Thomas shares the wonder that exists where space & soul collide. Her art has been featured in books & in magazines\, including Astronomy Magazine’s 50 Greatest Cosmic Scenes edition. She has presented at the Space Renaissance International Fair in Berlin\, Germany; and at the Mars Society’s International Convention. Her art was shared at the month-long “Space and Soul Together” solo show. She has multiple pieces on loan\, including a piece displayed at Lowell Observatory. She’s also attended and covered multiple space launches\, and numerous NASA media exclusive open house events. \nLinks\nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/live/N5nkQT2Udsk?feature=share\nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/492867043042564

SUMMARY:Island Zero - the SPACE Project
DESCRIPTION:Abstract \nIn 2013 Jerry Stone set up The SPACE Project – (Study Project Advancing Colony Engineering) – at the British Interplanetary Society\, to update the concept from the 1970s of a 10\,000-person space habitat at the EarthMoon L5 location. Jerry started the project not by setting goals or saying what topics they should cover\, but by asking the team members to come up with questions that would need to be answered as they progressed. He put the first one to the team himself: “All habitat designs have assumed that they will be rotated to simulate 1g\, but do we need 1g? How about 0.9g\, 0.8g or even less? There would be less stress on the structure\, meaning it wouldn’t need as much material for its construction; there would also be less stress on its inhabitants – on their cardiovascular system\, their muscles and their skeletal framework. Over time\, they grow taller to a degree\, and we’d have to take account of this in the architecture.” “However an associated question is; How low can a value of gravity be before it becomes a problem rather than an advantage?” The answer to that is; “Nobody knows”\, because it’s never been done! Another question is; “We wouldn’t start construction of an Island One habitat straight off. We’d need the assembly plant; before that\, the manufacturing facilities; and before that\, somewhere to house the construction team. How could that be done?” This presentation describes a development from The SPACE Project that came to be termed “Island Zero” which looks at a way of investigating low-gravity structures\, and would also also vastly aid the main habitat construction – Jerry has referred to them as “Portakabins in space”. Yet they would be relatively lowcost\, and could have many uses apart from building Island One – and larger – structures. \n\n \n\nA short bio \nJerry Stone is the founder of Spaceflight UK\, a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society\, former President of The Mars Society UK and a Freelance Space Presenter. He is member of the SRI Board of Directors\, as well. Jerry gave his first space talk at school back in 1969 when he was 14; now he does this for a living. He has spoken on space topics at many venues\, including The Edinburgh Festival; various Mars Society Conferences; Oxford University; The Palace of Westminster; The Royal Institution; The Royal Observatory; and a rock festival! He presents space workshops in schools across the UK\, inspiring pupils with a range of activities. He is developing a new workshop that will allow pupils to simulate what the ESA’s ExoMars rover will do on Mars\, investigating soil samples for evidence of life. He is often interviewed on TV and radio\, covering space mission and astronomy events. He was also interviewed for Blue Peter about how rockets work! He is a space author. He is described as “One of the leading speakers on space exploration”. \nLinks\nFollow the Livestream on YouTube: https://youtube.com/live/Bo_ituoCV28\nClick ‘going’ to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1248924719301957

SUMMARY:Humanity expanding to space - with Jacob Mulder
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nHomo Sapiens is doing very well\, here on the planet we call Earth\, but the Sapients also notice that there are limits to growth. As Adriano Autino wrote in his “SRI Open Forum” statement of 17 November 2022\, the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals could and should be extended with an 18th one: kick-off civilian space development\, before 2030. A large and growing group of space enthusiasts are optimistic: the sky is no limit! But although getting in space is becoming cheaper and easier\, remaining there sustainably and safely is far from trivial. When really working together\, we can imagine\, specify and realize real solutions. That requires real co-creation and also collaboration focused on integration. And it requires a holistic way of working: not just moving to space\, but facilitating humanity expanding to space. Lead by science\, implemented commercially\, supported by education\, with sustainable health and safety\, nourishing diversity and culture and upholding our humanity. Boldly doing it\, now\, by creating a Space Nation. Humans have created nations before\, we know what to do and what not. This dedicated Space Nation\, Asgardia\, is about sharing goals and visions and about gathering all aspects of humanity\, worldwide – one humanity\, one unity. As Minister of Manufacturing of Asgardia\, I will show a few examples of necessary activities and their current status.\nWorldwide collaboration is crucial\, within that nation\, but also with groups like SRI\, MVA\, MPS\, UNOOSA\, and with commercial and governmental space industries and suppliers\, on all levels and all scales. Hesitation is not an option. Our cradle\, the Earth\, is calling clearly: it’s time to act now. The future is clear – it can be done\, we are ready\, in all those groups\, organizations and companies. And this Space Nation will help facilitate it. Humankind is ready for this giant leap: humanity will expand to space.\n \nAn essential bio\n\nJacob Mulder was born in 1966\, living in the North of the Netherlands\, is married\, with 2 twin daughters and 5 grandchildren. Jacob Studied Astronomy and Information Technology at the University of Groningen\, the Netherlands. He works as IT Security & Enterprise Architect at CGI\, a large multinational in IT business consulting and systems integration. He is Chair of Paletzorg\, a partnership of about 70 independent small-scale care companies\, and related service providers in the Northern Netherlands. Jacob is quite active in Diversity\, Equity\, Accessibility and Inclusion\, in various contexts. He is Minister of Manufacturing at Asgardia\, the Space Nation. Gravity squeezes his spine and as a result\, he is in a reclining electric wheelchair\, so he wants to – needs to – emigrate to space\, around 2036. \n\nLinks\nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/gkZgycHvH9o\nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event:https://www.facebook.com/events/1159878604670729

SUMMARY:The Sociology of the Lunar Settlement - with Riccardo Campa
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nThe possibility that\, in a not too distant future\, a human settlement could be established on the Moon becomes increasingly real. Sociological knowledge invites us not to underestimate social problems that could arise in a dangerous lunar environment. Issues of social order and effective collaboration among settlers from different cultures may be particularly sensitive. Physical and physiological stressors caused by the lunar environment can amplify the psychological and sociological stressors that characterize any work environment. Where even air is an essential and rare good\, sabotage by individuals or non-integrated groups can be lethal for the entire community. The emergence of unwanted phenomena such as anomie and “free riding” is possible. Recommendations from the sociological literature on space exploration— particularly with regard to selection and training of space crews—may still prove useful in preventing conflicts when the human presence on the Moon is limited to a base of a few dozen astronauts and technicians. This study suggests that selection should take into account not only the professional skills and mental status of the settlers but also their degree of “sociological imagination.”\nA short bio\nRiccardo Campa (born May 4\, 1967 in Mantua) is Professor of Sociology at the Jagiellonian  University of Cracow. He posses two Master of Arts degrees\, in Political Science and Philosophy\, from the University of Bologna and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Nicholas Copernicus University in Torun\, Poland. Prior to becoming an academic\, Campa was a police lieutenant with Guardia di Finanza and a Journalist for La Voce di Mantova and the newsmagazine Il Mondo. Campa has authored or edited many books. Among them Epistemological Dimensions of Robert Merton’s Sociology (2001)\, Il filosofo e’ nudo (2001)\, Etica della scienza pura (2007)\, and Mutare o perire: La sfida del transumanesimo (2010). He is also chief editor of the academic journal Divenire. Rassegna di studi interdisciplinari sulla tecnica e il postumano. His articles frequently appear in MondOperaio\, an Italian socialist journal. He founded and is currently president of the Italian Transhumanist Association\, served as director of the World Transhumanist Association (2006-2008)\, and is Fellow of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies.\n\nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/k9y5qmEuw0g\nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2986138721680788

SUMMARY:Outer Space Activities and the Future of City
DESCRIPTION:We create and shape our surroundings. Thereafter\, our surroundings shape us. \nNew cities are emerging\, established towns are growing and expanding\, and many metropolises are merging to become megalopolises around the globe. And urban infrastructures around the world are coping hard to adjust to new pressures including the huge population migration from rural to urban regions\, climate change effects\, and vital resources\, all in an effort to sustain and enhance the quality of life of the citizen. Providing a safe\, productive and nurturing environment for the city dweller is the overarching directive and prime aim of every city management. Enhancing and safely delivering a range of cradle-to-grave activities to sustain the quality of life of the citizen including incorporating agile\, responsive systems for health and welfare\, economic opportunities\, leisure safety and security are all part of the current and evolving Smart City paradigm.\n \n\nJust as the space exploration community is expanding our presence into the solar system and beyond\, a group of thought leaders\, including visionary policy makers\, architects\, engineers and allied professionals are peering at Earth\, studying co-relations of various dynamic systems including land use\, air and sea agents\, and finding new ways to report and apply the data from space-based assets\, for the immediate betterment of humanity. Our cosmopolitan cities\, urban and suburban landscapes and dwellings are already using space assets including crew on orbiting space stations and allied technologies to monitor\, inform and enhance quality of life. Orbiting spacecraft also help predict\, alert and even prevent hazards\, both natural and manmade\, from affecting populations adversely. Future cities and their amenities including active adaptive and agile response systems that use artificial intelligence are already shaping the built environment. \nA short bio\nMadhu Thangavelu conducts the ASTE 527 graduate Space Exploration Architectures Concept Synthesis Studio in the Department of Astronautical Engineering within the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. SUMMARY:Water in space: The third underground.
DESCRIPTION:Water in space: The third underground.\nMars Underground\, Moon Underground\, and the “water Underground”\nA green environment is paramount important\, in any space habitat. Learning how vegetable life works and reproduce (or not reproduce) itself is a key challenge\, on the roadmap to space settlement.\nEqual attention should be paid to water. As human life couldn’t exist without green environments around\, to feed our body and our mind\, we couldn’t live without big volumes of water\, and the life contained on them. We will need lakes and seas in space habitats\, be they large O’Neill infrastructures or villages on planetary surface or underground.\nWhich researches are actually conducted on the above subjects? What should be made more?\n \nAn essential bio\nDinis Afonso Ribeiro investigated connections between oceans and space exploration at the scientific and industrial levels focusing on novel ways to develop permanent human settlements.\nThe ideas have been developed very gradually since 1985 and first published on this subject in 1988 in the US\, and in 1990 in Europe.\nDinis got his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)\, Political Science and Government at the University of Austin\, Texas.\nHe keeps researching for a PhD in Political Science at Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies. The theme is a comparative study of the mechanisms underlying the development of national space agencies in different countries. New models of organization of scientific exploration and industrial development of outer space. Comparative study of activities in various “Extreme Environments” (polar areas\, deserts\, underwater activities\, aeronautics\, space) in various countries.\nDinis’s skills and knowledge include: Scientific exploration and industrial development projects in “Extreme Environments” (Deserts\, Polar regions\, Disaster areas\, Sea\, Oceans\, Underwater activities\, Aeronautics\, Space). Geopolitical studies\, focusing in industrial development and scientific policy. International politics. Space science\, technology and policy. Marine Science. Scientific diving. SUMMARY:The Fifth Season: the "Bingo" surprises of space
DESCRIPTION:Large public opinion usually thinks about space as a very difficult\, dangerous and unsafe environment. Recent and less recent catastrophes reminded to us how Earth can be unsafe\, causing the death of thousands people in few minutes. It is very urgent to bring to the public attention some benefits of space\, and points where space is easier\, safer and more convenient than Earth\, at least: \n\nEasy transport at zero gravity and zero attrition.\nLight space structures vs. heavy earthling ones.\nAll the light we have ever dreamed of!\nEarth is pregnant\, not sick!\nBoundless energy in space\, halved the demand of energy on Earth.\nHalved the possibilities of extinction of human kind.\nAn artificial orbiting house can move\, if something is coming to hit it.\nBeing out of the gravitational well: a higher degree of freedom.\nBooming economy vs. stagnation and decay.\n\nThis lecture outlines and proposes a proper outreach programme\, illustrating a good number of space eases and conveniences\, giving a glimpse of a possible life in outer space settlements. \n\n\nAdriano V. Autino – a short bio \nAdriano Vittorio Autino\, born in Moncrivello (VC\, Italia)\, is co-founder and former President of the Space Renaissance Initiative\, since 2010 Space Renaissance International (SRI)\, an inter-cultural non-profit association\, whose mission is the opening of the space frontier: low-cost access to space\, space tourism\, industrialization of the geo-lunar space\, use of near Earth asteroids\, and the full development of space economy. SUMMARY:Creating a Global Policy Framework that will Enable the Creation of Communities Beyond Earth - with Steven Wolfe
DESCRIPTION:There is a great deal of earnest work to be done if humankind is ever to achieve the ultimate goal of expanding beyond Earth and establishing new branches of civilization throughout our solar system. Certainly\, there are many technical issues that need to be addressed. But just as important are the international policies that can help to spur us toward a space future. In this talk\, Steven Wolfe\, President\, and Co-founder of the Beyond Earth Institute will discuss the range of space policy issues that\, if properly addressed\, will not only remove barriers to eventual space settlement but will help to propel the global community more quickly to reaching that goal. Steve Wolfe will also discuss his book\, The Obligation\, which has been a source of inspiration to many who are committed to a space migration future. \nA short bio \nSteven Wolfe is the President and Co-Founder of the Beyond Earth Institute\, a think tank whose mission is to create and sustain a legal and policy framework that enables economically vibrant communities beyond Earth. Steve is also Deputy Executive Director for Global Spaceport Alliance and partner at CWSP International. He serves on the Board of Director of the Global Entrepreneurship Network for Space. He is on the Board of Editors for the Journal of Space Philosophy. Steve served in the U.S. House of Representatives as executive director of the Congressional Space Caucus and drafted the Space Settlement Act of 1988. The bill was signed into law as part of the NASA Authorization bill. Steve is the author of “The Obligation: A Journey to Discover Human Purpose on Earth and in the Cosmos”. SUMMARY:Astropolitics
DESCRIPTION:SRI supports peaceful\, civilian expansion into outer space. But there is another point of view about space and expansion into it\, not just as peaceful. Geopolitics is the study of international relations in consideration of geography – that is\, how human as well as physical geography affects the relations among states and state-like organizations. The term Astropolitics is already established for indicating the extension of geopolitics to outer space.\nSpace is already playing a relevant\, if not decisive\, role in the competition among nations for predominance on Earth. Its importance in the current Ukrainian war is well recognizable. But space has been connected to weapons since the very first flight of an human made object beyond the atmosphere. The Outer Space Treaty banned the placement of weapons of mass destruction in space\, but its use for information collection\, a.k.a. spying\, as well as military communication and other purposes relevant to the defense area\, went on anyway. Geopolitical analysts have been considering space in the competition for power among nations for decades. It is widely recognized that the theories devised by Alfred T. Mahan in the XIX century about sea power can be now extended to space. Competition among nations on strategic locations and resources in space has already started. A significant international collaboration among USA\, its allies and Russia took place across the century change\, but in the current situation it is coming to an end. China has always been kept out of it and is now aggressively pursuing its own goals. Can humanity expand into space without bringing its rivalries there? We hope not\, but likely the pursuit of power will be the main engine of expansion.\n \nA short bio\nAlberto Cavallo is an Electrical Engineer\, graduated at the Politecnico di Torino in 1985. He began his activity with designing electric systems in Fiat Engineering\, the engineering and construction company of the FIAT Group\, moving soon to control and automation systems in the same company. He was involved in all business areas of the company\, which included revamping and new projects of car factories for the FIAT Group as well as large infrastructures\, power and cogeneration plants for external clients. Among the projects of that time were the new FIAT factories in Melfi and Pratola Serra\, the high speed railways Torino-Milano and Bologna-Firenze\, the district heating system of Torino Sud\, combined cycle power plants for several hundred megawatts in Italy and in Brazil. Since Fiat Engineering was transferred from the FIAT Group to a new EPC group and then merged with a large EPC company in Milan\, he has been involved in large oil and gas and petrochemical projects all over the world. Besides his professional activity\, he has always taken part in several cultural activities. He was a member of the Associations of Alumni of the Liceo Classico Vittorio Alfieri of Turin\, active in promoting humanistic culture as well as its connection to the technical and scientific area. He manages his own website www.eurinome.it (in Italian only) about philosophy\, science and politics/geopolitics. Due to this he got in contact with Adriano Autino and his TDF\, then becoming one of the founding members of Space Renaissance International. Besides several papers in his professional area he has written several articles for his own site\, for TDF and SRI\, coauthoring the book “Three Theses for the Space Renaissance” with Adriano Autino and Patrick Q. Collins. He is currently member of the Board of SRI. \nClick ‘going’ to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/361185362796181\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/PzFkoR1z7Pk

SUMMARY:The Cosmic Zoo Hypothesis and the Expected Diversity of Planetary Alien Habitats
DESCRIPTION:The Cosmic Zoo hypothesis states that if life originates on a planetary body it will eventually evolve to become complex\, meaning plant- and animal-like\, if the planet or moon stays habitable long enough (in general billions of years). Multiple biochemically pathways have been invented through natural selection to arrive at Earth´s biosphere as it is now. If we screen the known planets and moons in our Solar System\, and also the thousands of planets outside of our Solar System\, we can derive a subset of these planets that could harbor life\, some of them life as we don´t know it and a few of them possibly complex life.\n \nA short bio\nDirk Schulze-Makuch received his Ph.D. in geosciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Afterwards he took up a fellowship at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center\, worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso\, and later as Associate and Full Professor at Washington State University. In 2010 he received the Friedrich-Wilhelm Bessel Award from the Humboldt Foundation for extraordinary achievements in theoretical biology. Since 2013 he is a faculty member at the Technical University Berlin in Germany and holds a professorship for planetary habitability and astrobiology\, leading the Astrobiology Research Group. He still is Adjunct Professor at Washington State University and also an Associate Member of SETI. Dirk published more than 200 papers and 8 books in the field of planetary habitability and astrobiology\, including the 3rd edition of Life in the Universe: Expectations and Constraints and The Cosmic Zoo: Complex Life on Many Worlds\, first published in 2017. Since 2016 Dirk is president of the German Astrobiological Society and council member of the European Astrobiology Network. He gave interviews in scientific television documentaries such as National Geographic and Discovery Channel (USA)\, NHK-TV (Japan)\, ARD and RTL (Germany)\, and reports about his research appeared in media and news outlets such as Science\, Popular Science\, Discovery Magazine\, New Scientist\, World Science\, Natural History Magazine\, BBC\, CNN\, MSNBC\, etc.\nMore information can be found on his website https://www.searchforlifeintheuniverse.com/\n\n\nClick ‘going’ to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1276600586213700/\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/4J37eAkELmM

SUMMARY:The hunt for life on Mars\, with Ulrich Köhler
DESCRIPTION:Is there\, or was there life anywhere else out there in the Solar System? This question could indeed be answered in our time. The spacefaring nations and organizations sent and send super high-tech spacecraft to our neighboring planet Mars where scientists think the life had good chances to exist in the past\, or even today. They observe the planet’s surface and its atmosphere from orbit\, and they sniff for biosignatures with mobile robotic devices on the ground. Samples taken today will be brought to the laboratories on Earth in about ten years.\n \nA brief bio\nUlrich Köhler is a planetary geologist at DLR’s Institute of Planetary research in Berlin. He studied Geology in Munich and spent a year for his diploma thesis at Universidade Estadual Paulista\, Rio Claro (SP\, Brasil). At DLR he started 1991 with the analysis of multispectral imaging data from NASA’s Galileo probe passing the Moon twice and arriving 1995 at the Jovian system\, transmitting image data from the Galilean Satellites. 1999-2000 he was at Brown University (Providence\, RI) on a NASA grant. Returning to DLR\, besides the Moon his focus then was Mars where DLR has the famous High Resolution Stereo Camera in orbit on ESA’s Mars Express orbiter. Ulrich is the coordinator of the institute’s Education and Public Outreach activities.\n\nClick ‘going’ to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/5331930816902399/\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/hCEgPkc8QCc

SUMMARY:ACES Worldwide\, vision and program
DESCRIPTION:The Alliance for Collaboration in the Exploration of Space (ACES Worldwide) has been established to both promote and enable innovative partnerships among space-related organizations around our home planet. The goal is to identify key areas of common interest in space exploration and development\, to explore opportunities to advance international collaboration in these areas\, and to help ensure that the outcomes of these efforts are demonstrably sustainable\, peaceful\, and maximally beneficial for all of humanity. This presentation summarizes the overall vision for ACES Worldwide\, the key space-faring issues this program will address\, and pivotal questions concerning “next steps” that could effectively advance this program. \nA native of Los Angeles\, Jim Crisafulli pursued joint undergraduate studies in Physics and Zoology at Harvey Mudd College and Pomona College in Claremont\, California. Following a twoyear assignment with the U.S. Peace Corps as a secondary school physics teacher in Fiji\, he enrolled in Claremont Graduate University to obtain a Master’s Degree in International Studies\, with special emphasis on the technologies and economies of Asia/Pacific communities. In 1978\, Jim was awarded a 3-year international research fellowship with the East-West Center in Honolulu\, where he continued to investigate technology development issues affecting Asia/Pacific communities. He subsequently held positions as an economic development specialist and program director for both the Honolulu Community Action Program (HCAP) and the Economic Development Corporation of Honolulu (EDCH). In 1988\, Jim joined the Hawaii State Government to serve as Space Program Projects Manager for the State Office of Space Industry (until its closure in May\, 1995)\, and subsequently served as Science & Technology Officer and Research & Development Coordinator for the State’s Dept. of Business\, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) – during which he helped launch Hawaii’s Office of Aerospace Development (for which he served as Director until July 2017) to help advance diverse bilateral and multinational space activities – including the Japan-U.S. Science\, Technology & Space Applications Program (JUSTSAP)\, the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES)\, and other programs designed to facilitate the research\, development\, testing and evaluation of innovative space-related technologies\, as well as professional training and aerospace education programs to promote both robotic and human missions to the Moon\, Mars and beyond. Jim now serves as President of the Alliance for Collaboration in the Exploration of Space (ACES Worldwide) – an innovative partnership of space-related organizations around the Earth that are promoting creative ways to advance public-private partnerships and multinational alliances that ultimately could help reduce the costs\, enhance the benefits\, and accelerate timetables for future space exploration and development missions engaging all of humankind! \nClick ‘going’ to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/437462891470777/ \nFollow the livestream on the YouTube Space Renaissance channel: https://youtu.be/h3iTJghizO4

SUMMARY:COLMENA\, a new concept on lunar exploration
DESCRIPTION:We are stepping at the gates of a new era in space exploration\, one which will finally incorporate the inner solar system to society’s daily life and economics. The first step is the Moon\, and the asteroids will probably follow. The surface of those bodies presents special challenges for human and technological activities as well as resource exploitation. These challenges\, which include regolith\, extreme thermal amplitude\, high energy radiation and surface mineral mixing among others\, open the door to new operational approaches. COLMENA is the pathfinder of one such avenue: using swarms of micro-rovers for scientific exploration\, resource prospection or\, eventually\, mining The first COLMENA mission will deploy 5 microrovers (56 grams each) on the Moon surface by the end of this year\, flying on board a private spacecraft. In the talk I will briefly explain the context\, technical characteristics and objectives of the mission\, as well as its future.\n\nA short bio\nDr. Gustavo MEDINA TANCO is Professor at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of UNAM in Mexico\, where he leads the group of ultra-high energy cosmic rays and is the Head of the Laboratory for Space Instrumentation\, LINX\, which he created in 2009. He has also created\, and is responsible for\, the National Laboratory for Space Access (LANAE) in state of Hidalgo\, Mexico\, which will start operation in 2022. He was for 10 years the science coordinator of the International JEM-EUSO Collaboration and member of its executive board and\, as such he lead the Mexican participation in the development of several instruments under the coordination of CNES\, NASA\, ASI and ROSCOSMOS. He implemented a platform for stratospheric ballooning of small science and engineering payloads which operates regularly from Mexico and has also flown in cooperation with CSBF-NASA. He has been the PI and project manager of the NanoConnect-2 satellite and the COLMENA lunar mission. He has been a member of the Commissions of Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities respectively\, of the Confederation of Chambers of Industry of Mexico (CONCAMIN). He is an elected member of the IAA\, member of the Science Group of the ISECG\, of the Innovation and Commercialization WG of Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence\, of the SATC of the IAF. He has been professor at the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (IAG) of the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and Adjoint Professor of Physics at Vanderbilt University\, USA as well as visiting scholar of RIKEN Institute in Japan. He is also Scientific Advisor to the Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico. MEDINA TANCO made his major in Physics at UNT in Argentina\, his PhD at USP in Brazil\, and postdoctoral stays at IAG-USP\, University of Cambridge\, UK\, and University of Leeds\, UK. He is the author of 217 articles in scientific refereed journals and more than 500 conference papers\, with more that 20\,000 citations.\n\n\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/7OH-PEO_bS4 \nAlso click ‘going’ on the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1049275022384963/

SUMMARY:How to build a planet?
DESCRIPTION:This title is not a new project for terraforming Mars or a “Plan B” for the time after the climate catastrophe. The title describes the anachronistic activity of traditional globe making. Admittedly\, this craft seems out of time in times of Google Maps and GPS navigation. So why learn anything about traditional globe making? In my lecture I will present the work of my “Plantenkugel Manufaktur” founded in 2015. On the one hand I show a traditionally made Mars globe based on the fantastic map by Percival Lowell from 1905. Secondly a NASA based moon relief globe with hand painted albedo will be presented. Selected historical milestones of Martian and Lunar globes will be shown and the making of the two different types of globes will be looked at in detail. Since there are only a handful of traditionally working globe makers left in the world\, the manufacturing details can only be gathered with difficulty. After the lecture\, you will be able to create your own world – be it Mars\, Jupiter\, our Sun or the moons of Mars.\nA short bio\nSince 2017 Prof. Dr. Michael Plichta is Professor of experimental Psychiatry\, Dept. of Psychiatry\, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy\, at the University Hospital in Frankfurt. NASA based Moon Globe with raised relief. From 2015 to 2016 he was Head of Laboratory\, University Hospital Zurich (USZ)\, Dept. of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Prof. Ulrich Schnyder). In 2015 Michael worked at the Establishment of the Planetenkugel Manufaktur (PKM) – First globe “Mars and its Canals”. In 2009 and 2010 he got his Post-Doc at Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH)\, Mannheim (Prof. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg). Since 2004 to 2009 he was a PhD student\,  at Laboratory of Psychophysiology & Functional Imaging\, Department of Psychiatry\, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy\, University Hospital\, Würzburg\, PhD degree (“summa cum laude”). And since 200 to 2004 he made his Psychology studies\, at the University of Giessen\, Diploma in psychology\, University of Giessen.\n\n\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/JiLSeko39ss \nAlso click ‘going’ on the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1465669497236928/

SUMMARY:Toward an Acceptable Framework for Off-Planet Resource Utilization\, with Wes Faires
DESCRIPTION:The Working Group on Space Resources under the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS)\, presents an opportunity for a legally binding instrument to develop under the auspices of the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNOOSA)\, and do so in a manner favorable to space resource utilization for the private sector. The intended result of the Working Group\, as stated its 5 years workplan\, is to conclude discussions on the development of space resources followed with possible adoption by the United Nations General Assembly as a dedicated resolution or other action. This presentation draws a parallel to a similar scenario with regard to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)\, where a working group on Deep Sea-Bed resources\, executed via specific legal channels within the United Nations\, led to a legally binding instrument: The 1994 Agreement on Implementation\, resulting in a modification of the international framework governing ocean floor minerals. \n\n \n\nThe avenue utilized for the execution of the 1994 Agreement on Implementation for UNCLOS provides a course for legally binding instrument to develop via the Working Group on Space Resources. Such an instrument could serve to interpret and elaborate on ambiguities within the Outer Space Treaty framework\, while avoiding any parallels to the commercially harmful aspects of the top-down governance structure embedded within the International Seabed Authority. \nA short bio \nCharles Wesley Faires made his first entry into the archives of claims to property in Outer Space during college in 2003 when he recorded a 4 page Affidavit claiming ownership to the three stars of Orion’s Belt.  In 2006\, after graduating with a B.S. in Communications\, he made the decision to use this project as a tool obtain an answer from an official source on the legality of off-planet property claims under the Outer Space Treaty once and for all.  A formal letter campaign pinpointed the competent authorities for such matters within the U.S. State Department and the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs.  He made the decision to take the issue of formal confirmation on the compliance or violation of his Claim of Ownership to Orion’s Belt directly to the source of space law which would require participation in the U.N. Committee of Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNVIENNA) – as a private citizen.  While at the proceedings\, he approached the competent US authorities simply asking whether the claim\, in and of itself\, executed by a “natural person” stood in violation of the Outer Space Treaty – in the view of the competent authority on behalf of the U.S.\, there was no violation.  This paved the way for formal confirmation that nothing in the underlying documents is prohibited by domestic or treaty law\, clearing it for international legal use.  Condoleezza Rice’s signature upon a Claim of Ownership to the 3 stars of Orion’s Belt *executed after contact with the competent authority for space/treaty affairs* in November 2008 was the first formal confirmation on behalf of a State Party that private property rights were not patently unlawful under the Outer Space Treaty.  He has obtained multiple reaffirmations upon various such claims under the past 3 secretaries of state and is now looking to gain similar confirmation outside the U.S. \nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/RujfUoLxqNc \nAlso click ‘going’ on the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/546709283500826/

SUMMARY:Exploring the Role of Art in Advancing Space Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Art and Illustration play an important role in the world of aerospace engineering. Envisioning advanced aerospace concepts and operations facilitates the systems engineering process. Visually communicating such complex ideas also enhances public awareness\, understanding and engagement\, and inspires future generations.  I will show how I managed to blend art and engineering to great advantage throughout my technical career in aerospace engineering as well as my Hollywood consulting experience. I will also briefly describe the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA). The IAAA is an inclusive group of space artists who work in a very wide range of techniques and media. Our common bond is the love of astronomy\, science\, space exploration and all things related. I doubt there are many other groups on the planet quite like it.\nAldo Spadoni is an aerospace engineer and futurist with over 40 years of experience. He is a veteran of numerous advanced development programs for NASA\, the United States Air Force and Navy. He is a recipient of NASA’s Turning Goals Into Reality award for Reusable Launch Vehicle Development. Aldo created an award-winning simulation team at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. He is President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA). He is an accomplished self-taught artist and concept designer with four US patents to his credit. Aldo’s consulting company\, Aerospace Imagineering\, specializes in the conceptual design\, visualization and prototyping of advanced technology concepts and products. As a Hollywood technical consultant and concept designer\, he supported the production of APOLLO 13\, SUPERNOVA\, STEALTH\, IRON MAN 1 & 2\, and other movie projects. He is currently the spacecraft technical advisor on the upcoming interstellar adventure film\, PERSEPHONE. Aldo’s personal goals are to promote STEAM education and create compelling positive visions of humanity’s spacefaring future.\n\n\nFollow the livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/JnHWwBz-2pw \nAlso click ‘going’ on the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1026312348003530

SUMMARY:A greater world is possible! Adriano V. Autino presents his book
DESCRIPTION:“A greater world is possible!” represents a deep reflection about the state of civilization\, some possible futures and the deep moral implications of the great choices that civilization has to make. Very often such choices are driven by the evolution of social and international relationships\, rather than by a reasoned and motivated rationale. There is a big difference between United States and Europe in the perception of outer space\, as an area of possible expansion. However\, even where this discussion is far more advanced\, it is hard to overcome the old paradigm of space exploration for its own sake\, which has characterized the strategy of the world’s largest and most advanced space agency\, NASA. So much so that even NASA has often found itself needing to reinvent communication strategies\, aimed at not losing the public funding necessary for its survival. “Before properly understanding the mechanisms that determined this state of affairs for so long\,” says the author\, “I was always shocked and speechless when facing these manifestations of what I thought to be a cultural inconsistency. Why not state clearly that\, should we not expand into space within this century\, our civilization would be prematurely terminated? Why not acknowledge that the expansion beyond the limits of our mother planet is an absolute and vital necessity for a civilization that will soon exceed eight billion individuals? The multiple reasons for such a failure\, for not accepting the agencies’ main mission are political\, economic and military. They are philosophical as well\, deeply rooted in the pre-Copernican paradigm of the “closed world”. These justifications have become clearer to me\, thanks to a patient work of research and informative discussion with other space enthusiasts\, and thanks to that great resource developed over the last thirty years: the global network. However\, the main aim of this work is not to denounce those responsible for a very regrettable delay of half a century\, but rather to put together\, in a coherent and integrated way\, the deeply moral reasons of a finally maturely expansionist strategy.” \nAdriano Vittorio Autino\, born in Moncrivello (VC\, Italia)\, is co-founder and former President of the Space Renaissance Initiative\, since 2010 Space Renaissance International (SRI)\, an inter-cultural non-profit association\, whose mission is the opening of the space frontier: low-cost access to space\, space tourism\, industrialization of the geo-lunar space\, use of near Earth asteroids\, and the full development of space economy. Adriano is dimplomed in Industrial Electronics\, acting since 1971 as a software and system engineer\, then project manager and entrepreneur in the field of real-time automation systems. \nA complete list of publications can be seen here https://spacerenaissance.space/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/AVA_BIO_2022.pdf\, and here https://spacerenaissance.space/documents/papers-fragments/ \nFollow the Livestream on the Space Renaissance YouTube Channel:  https://youtu.be/1HNyjLkfyAI \nand click ‘going’ on the Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1365536740591810 \n“A greater world is possible” is available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/greater-world-possible-expansion-civilization/dp/1727889924
