Webinar on the Development of Mars, the Asteroids, and Beyond

14 March 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC

A webinar on “The Development of Mars, the Asteroids, and Beyond“, with particular focus on the perspective of Mars settlement as a fundamental baseline to the industrial development in the Solar System, namely the Asteroids Belt.

The speeches:

Jerry Stone – “Island Zero: First Steps in Space Habitat Construction”
Shaun Moss – “Settling the Solar System: the Best Destinations Beyond the Moon”
Susan Jewell  – “Building the MMARSBase and Training Analog Astronauts to become future settlers on Mars and the Moon”
Dan Cottitta – “Heavy Lift Advanced Materials and Hydrogen”
Bruce Mackenzie – “Mars, gateway to the Solar System”
Isaac Arthur – “Outward Bound: Colonizing Neptune”
Co-chairs: Shaun Moss & Jerry Stone
Adriano V. Autino (SRI, President and Founder) will propose some introductory questions to the panelists.

SETTLING MARS, MARS ORBIT AND BEYOND

Mars, a gateway to access the huge abundance of resources of the Asteroids Belt
Industrial settlements and logistic hub, to process/stock/deliver materials mined from asteroids
Terraforming Mars or just working, researching and exploring on its surface, living in orbital cities?
Moon, Mars, Asteroid Belt, Moons of Jupiter and beyond, a logical path to settle the Solar System
Perspectives of a Mars colony
Mars settlement as the edge of a global expansion strategy vs. a Mars-only strategy
Mars tourism
Mining Mars: water, resources and profitability
Mars energy: solar power and/or nuclear power
Health and safety of human life on Mars
Living on Mars surface vs. Mars orbit (0.376 G or 1G with artificial gravity?)
Cosmic and sun radiations on Mars surface, due to the absence of a magnetic shield
Was a martian variant of human race in a short time a desirable goal?
Surface only vs. cis-martian infrastructures: living at 1/3 G and human physiology, working on the Mars surface and living in Cis-martian O’Neill cities?
Is the O’Neill orbital cities model applicable to Mars too?
Greening Mars, food, farming, terraforming?
Exploration and Research: search for life on Mars, astronomic observation settlements,
How Mars could work as an outpost and a relay to the Asteroids Belt colonization
Industrial settlements on Mars, to process the asteroid mined materials
Mars as a communication and logistic hub, mid station between internal and External Solar System
Mars development: a possible schedule within this Century, which are the main milestones
Legal aspects
Commercial and industrial activities: the martian soil property issue;
Mars settlement and the Outer Space Treaty
Elon Musk and his vision of an independent Mars colony

Each panelist have the choice to present with or without the support of slides, or to simply reply to some questions, that will be proposed to the panelists:
