There is a parallel with the Club of Rome's infamous report "The Limits to Growth", produced 50 years ago. This raised great alarms about the future of mankind, claiming/predicting that we would run out of many resources, some in the relatively near future. However the report was flawed as it did not consider Space - as it did not mention it! Mankind’s large-scale advancement into space was described by Gerard K O\'Neill 50 years ago from investigations by students at Princeton. Designs were drawn up for large space habitats at the Earth-Moon L4 and L5 points. This totally countered the report “Limits to Growth” which failed to mention Space and its huge potential benefits. Now a similar situation exists with the lack of mention of Space in the UN’s first 17 SDGs. Hence the SRI has proposed an 18th, which Spaceflight UK fully supports | 3 |
