Robotics plays a key role in space exploration, and will still be a key tool for expanding human frontiers in the solar system. Robotics is applicable in the orbital domain, for satellite maintenance, assembly of large structures in orbit, or in-station servicing. For planetary exploration, robots offer multiple options for telepresence of humans in remote environments. This talk will present latest results of DLR in these domains, summarizing the developments while keeping an eye on the next challenges in space robotics.
Maximo A. Roa is a Senior Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in the German Aerospace Center – DLR. He heads the group of Robotic Planning and Manipulation, focused on development and implementation of locomotion and manipulation skills at different levels for industrial, service and humanoid robots. Dr. Roa is an IEEE Senior Member, and served as co-chair of the IEEE-RAS Technical Committee on Mobile Manipulation from 2013 until 2019. He is also member of ASME, IAU, and PMI.
