The Case of the Sexual Cosmos – new book by Howard Bloom

Abstract

The theory of entropy, a basic tenet of science, is wrong.

• Another underlying scientific assumption, Pierre Louis De Maupertuis’ law of least action, is also wrong.
• This is not a pinch-penny, parsimonious cosmos. It is the opposite. It is a flagrantly materialist, consumerist cosmos, a cosmos that has invented vanity–piling up surplus, then displaying it with panache. Flaunting, flouncing and strutting your stuff.
• Nature loves those who oppose her most. She favors those who reinvent her, those who give her new powers.
• This is a planet of climate catastrophe. With mass die-offs every 26.5 million years. And 99% of all the species that have ever lived extinguished by, guess who? Nature.
• Yet life flings a finger in the face of this poison pill of stone. Despite nonstop climate apocalypse, life greens and gardens the place. Life’s next imperative: garden and green the poison pills of stone above our heads. Bring space to life by bringing life to space.
• Meanwhile, invent climate stabilization technologies to overcome this planet’s wild mood swings. Invent climate stabilization technologies to sneak over, around, or above the next ice age or the next planetary warming, a warming with carbon dioxide levels over twice what they are today.
• In this cosmos, it is not the most probable thing that happens. It is the most improbable. Sex is the ultimate example. Sex is not the shortest path to reproduction. In fact, it is the longest path this universe has ever conceived.

A short bio

Howard Bloom has been called the Einstein, Newton, Darwin, and Freud of the 21st century by Britain’s Channel 4 TV. He is the founder and chair of the Space Development Steering Committee, the co-founder and co-chair of the Asian Space Technology Summit and on the Board of Governors of the National Space Society. Bloom is the author of eight books, including The Lucifer Principle: A Scientific Expedition Into the Forces of History. One of his books, Global Brain, was the subject of a symposium thrown by the office of the Secretary of Defense, with representatives from the State Department, DARPA, the Energy Department, IBM, and MIT. His work has been published in The Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Wired, Psychology Today, and the Scientific American. He has written articles for peer-reviewed journals or given lectures at scholarly conferences in twelve different scientific fields, from quantum physics and cosmology to evolutionary biology, neuroscience, biopolitics, information science, and astronautics. And he has worked with Buzz Aldrin, Michael Jackson, Prince, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, and Bob Marley. The eleventh president of India, Dr. APJ Kalam, calls Bloom “a visionary.” And in 2021, an organization was established to further his work: The Howard Bloom Institute. Pavel Kurakin of the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Science in Moscow says that, “Bloom has created a new Scientific Paradigm.
