The Era of Infrastructures in Space

Abstract

Space is entering its infrastructure era. For decades, progress in space has largely been measured by what we could build and launch: better satellites, more capable spacecraft, and increasingly sophisticated missions. But as the number and complexity of space activities grow, the next constraint may no longer be the spacecraft themselves. It may be the infrastructure around them. The same transition happened on Earth. Cars became transformative when roads, fuel stations and logistics networks scaled around them. Aviation became a global industry through airports, navigation systems, and air traffic management. Maritime trade grew around ports and logistics infrastructure. Space may now be approaching a similar inflection point. Transportation, servicing, communications, computing, navigation, and other shared capabilities could progressively become the infrastructure layer of a scalable space economy. This webinar explores what that transition could look like, why it may be happening now, and what it could mean for the future of space.

A short bio

Stefano Antonetti is the Strategy and Growth Director at D-Orbit. He began his career as a Space Systems Engineer in Paris, where he spent seven years working on feasibility studies for space exploration missions and assessing the environmental impact of space activities for the European Space Agency (ESA). Upon returning to Italy in 2014, he joined D-Orbit as Program Manager, leading several projects for ESA and the European Commission, contributing to the start up and growth of the company. He holds a master’s degree in Space Engineering, earned through a joint program between the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and the Delft University of Technology. Today, as Director of Strategy and Growth, Stefano leads the definition of D-Orbit’s medium- to long-term growth strategy, working closely with the CEO and business units to provide market and business intelligence as well as strategic direction across the organization.
